All-Libraries Day Symposium
Monday May 19, 2025 9:45am - 10:45am CDT
Education Outside the Reading Room: Crafting an Elective in Medical History: The curriculum for medical students is extremely structured and offers little time for students with an interest in medical history to explore it. To fill some of this gap, the Center for the History of Medicine at Becker Library offered a new elective for Phase 3 medical students that would combine sessions in the Special Collections reading room with a one-week trip abroad. This talk explores the process of creating the elective, its goals, and its outcomes.

Teamwork Makes Technical Writing Library Instruction Dreams Work: In this presentation, we’ll share how the STEM Librarians team collaboratively revamped, planned, taught, and assessed a shared lesson plan for the McKelvey School of Engineering’s Technical Writing classes. This presentation will highlight the benefits, challenges, and lessons learned from managing a collaborative instruction program. Attendees will leave with practical strategies for fostering teamwork, building flexible lesson plans, and using assessments to drive continuous improvement.
